Monte Alban
Monte Albán
Located just eight kilometers west of Oaxaca, Monte Albán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is truly one of the Latin America's most spectacular pre-Columbian sites and a must see while you're in town.
The elaborate and imposing Monte Albán - a once-powerful, populous and prosperous Zapotec city constructed around 200 AD - is perched atop a mountain high above the floor of the Central Valleys. Needless to say, the panoramic birds-eye vistas themselves make a day trip to Monte Albán well worth it!
What's left of Monte Albán is primarily what had once been the city center, as many of the buildings that once composed the peripheries have been destroyed over the course of time. While some parts of Monte Albán are better preserved than others, the complex in itself is a fascinating demonstration of the sophistication of pre-Columbian architecture. You can even get a glimpse into the customs and beliefs of a civilization thousands of years ago through the frescoes and murals that have withstood the test of time
Don't pass up your opportunity to step back in time! Spend time in Oaxaca with Enforex, sign up for one of our great Spanish courses and see Monte Albán and other nearby sites. In fact, Monte Albán is even one of the cultural excursions organized by our school staff!
