El Zocalo
El Zócalo
El Zócalo, the city's centrally-located main square, is perhaps the most emblematic part of Oaxaca. Not only is it Oaxaca's largest plaza, but it also serves as the cultural and social hub of the city and, since 1529, plays a central role in daily life, festivals, concerts and much more.
The beautiful arcaded square is surrounded by restaurants and cafés and is by far the best spot in the city to kick back, sip a coffee, watch the comings and goings and soak up a bit of Oaxaca atmosphere at its best. Nearby you'll find such must-see attractions as the Cathedal and the Museo del Palacio, not to mention a slew of galleries, shops, bars and restaurants.
When you sign up for a Spanish course with our Enforex partner school in Oaxaca, you'll be mere minutes from this vibrant part of the city. You'll find our school facilities just four blocks from El Zócalo, and we always do our best to place students in host families right in and around the center of Oaxaca.
